À la lumière de quelques récits dévolus à l’immigration, cette réflexion établit que, chez Tahar Ben Jelloun, Fawzia Zouari et Fatou Diome, la construction du personnage exilique contribue à la manifestation du sens de l’errance à travers l’itinérance et la sédentarité des différents protagonistes mis en mobilité dans l’espace narratif. Cette construction induit l’idée que l’errance du personnage exilique est plus solidaire aux conditions de départ qu’aux conditions d’accueil dans le pays de refuge. À travers leurs différents parcours, ces personnages vulnérables donnent le ton d’une reconstruction identitaire et statutaire en capitalisant leurs rapports à l’altérité pour réussir leur intégration. L’exil est donc manifeste, voire envahissant, puisqu’il ravage les personnages aussi bien sur le plan physique que psychologique. Leurs différents témoignages de parcours saturent le récit, structurent les mémoires et les identités et rendent compte des prétentions de sédentarité qui traverse tout exilé au terme d’une itinérance plus ou moins douloureuse.
