Abstract
Au printemps 2021, lors du Congrès des sciences humaines à l’Université d’Alberta, nous avons réuni plusieurs chercheurs pour un atelier intitulé « La femme insulaire : du nord au sud, histoire de permanence et de renouvellement » afin d’étudier comment l’héritage colonialiste et/ou esclavagiste des îles a contribué à perpétuer l’image dévalorisante de la femme îlienne, qu’elle soit d’origine autochtone, déplacée ou migrante. Dans le sillage de cette conférence, nous avons recueilli quatre articles traitant l’affranchissement des auteur.e.s insulaires qui cherchent dans l’exploitation de « leur espace littéraire propre » (Paré) un moyen de créer un lieu propice pour renouveler l’image de la femme, questionner les relations politiques, économiques et sociales entre le nord et le sud, le local et le global.
