Abstract
Resumen La investigación sobre formas de pensamiento algebraico no evade la discusión de las formas de pensamiento aritmético. Resultados de investigación muestran que la ausencia de indicios espaciales en el estudio de secuencias numéricas hace que los estudiantes limiten el proceso de generalización al trabajo sobre relaciones entre números. En este artículo, a partir de datos provenientes de una investigación doctoral y de un programa de extensión con profesores de matemáticas, se analiza la actividad semiótica de una estudiante y de una profesora de primaria, respectivamente. El análisis sugiere la presencia de una zona conceptual en la que formas sofisticadas de generalización aritmética estarían muy cerca de proto-formas de pensamiento algebraico, y, además, abre pistas para profundizar la reflexión epistemológica en aras de lograr una caracterización más inteligible de esta zona conceptual en el aprendizaje del álgebra.
