Abstract
Cet article portant sur le roman L’héritier (1951) de Simone Bussières s’emploie à souligner les soubassements patriarcaux sur lesquels reposent le récit d’une femme à qui un ex-amoureux demande de lui faire un enfant – un fils – qu’il adoptera alors avec son épouse. La demande prévoit que si l’enfant est une fille, la femme le gardera et l’homme subviendra à ses besoins. Après moults questionnements moraux, le personnage féminin accepte, puis se dévoile malencontreusement à l’épouse dans un quiproquo. Adoptant une approche féministe matérialiste, l’analyse porte sur les procédés littéraires utilisés par l’autrice pour légitimer le personnage féminin, voire l’exonérer, et plutôt condamner le personnage masculin, représentant de la communauté patriarcale.
