courte durée : la prochaine frontière dans l'intendance des antimicrobiens Donald Sheppard 1,2,3,4 * RésuméIl est essentiel de garantir un usage approprié des antibiotiques pour préserver leur efficacité en limitant le développement et l'augmentation de la résistance aux antimicrobiens.Il est de plus en plus évident que des traitements antibiotiques plus courts sont aussi efficaces que les régimes traditionnels plus longs pour de nombreuses infections courantes et peuvent réduire le risque d'effets indésirables.Malgré l'existence de données probantes et de lignes directrices en faveur d'une antibiothérapie de courte durée pour ces pathologies, l'utilisation prolongée d'antibiotiques reste courante.Cet article passe en revue les origines et l'évolution de notre approche concernant la durée de prescription des antimicrobiens, les données probantes relatives à l'utilisation d'un traitement de courte durée pour certaines infections, les obstacles à l'adoption de cette pratique et les approches potentielles qui peuvent être adoptées pour réduire l'utilisation inappropriée des antibiotiques de longue durée.
