Abstract
Il est essentiel de garantir un usage appropri des antibiotiques pour prserver leur efficacit en limitant le dveloppement et l'augmentation de la rsistance aux antimicrobiens. Il est de plus en plus vident que des traitements antibiotiques plus courts sont aussi efficaces que les rgimes traditionnels plus longs pour de nombreuses infections courantes et peuvent rduire le risque d'effets indsirables. Malgr l'existence de donnes probantes et de lignes directrices en faveur d'une antibiothrapie de courte dure pour ces pathologies, l'utilisation prolonge d'antibiotiques reste courante. Cet article passe en revue les origines et l'volution de notre approche concernant la dure de prescription des antimicrobiens, les donnes probantes relatives l'utilisation d'un traitement de courte dure pour certaines infections, les obstacles l'adoption de cette pratique et les approches potentielles qui peuvent tre adoptes pour rduire l'utilisation inapproprie des antibiotiques de longue dure.
