Abstract
The lapidary inscriptions of the Avan Cathedral, the ruins of which have survived to this day in the administrative district of Avan of modern Yerevan, are the most valuable sources for studying the history of both this cathedral and medieval Armenia. The historiographical, linguistic and grammatical analysis of the lapidary inscription of 1219 provides the basis for considering questions of the history of the Cathedral of an economic nature and dogmatic belonging. As a result of the study, a number of conclusions are drawn according to which the lapidary inscription is characterized as an official document of the sale and purchase of a land plot between the local feudal prince Jajur Khagbakyan and the Avan monastery. The inscription makes it possible to determine the legal status of ownership before and after the sale, the subject composition of the land. The lapidary inscription substantively reflects the administrative-political, socio-economic realities of the Zakharid principality of Armenia in the first quarter of the 13th century.
