Abstract
Le tournant participatif de la vigilance environnementale relève d’évolutions multiples, sociotechniques avec l’essor du numérique, organisationnelles avec la généralisation des infrastructures de la connaissance, et politique avec les injonctions envers la population à prendre plus part à la vie publique. Dans cet article introductif, il est montré que cette participation ne se résume pas à la plus ou moins grande collégialité de la façon dont sont menées les initiatives participatives de monitoring environnemental. La notion de médiation, décomposant l’architecture de ces initiatives, celle de gouvernance relative à une vision systémique de leur allocation du pouvoir, et enfin le positionnement réflexif du chercheur sociologue qu’elles impliquent permet de les resituer dans les enjeux auxquels leurs promoteurs et leurs observateurs sont confrontés. Il s’agit de restaurer l’incertitude sur leur portée, pesant sur ces dispositifs de monitoring en ce moment de mutation de la vigilance environnementale.
