El ensayo analiza el papel de la fotografía en el Caribe como un ejercicio de pensamiento decolonial y emancipatorio, especialmente desde las lógicas contemporáneas de la fotografía artística. Sus formulaciones críticas, heredadas de las trayectorias documentales en las islas, se complementa con las experimentaciones estéticas y conceptuales del arte contemporáneo para construir discursos problematizadores que revelan las zonas de marginalidad, exclusiones y desigualdades sociales y culturales. En paralelo, el presente artículo se propone sistematizar las trayectorias de la fotografía en Nuestra América como un lenguaje de la alteridad y analizar la emergencia de la fotografía artística en el Caribe en los años ochenta del pasado siglo XX y sus discursos artísticos, que se nutren de lo popular y las prácticas culturales reivindicatorias de Caliban.
