Abstract
The covid-19 respiratory illness caused by the rapid spread of the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) resulted in a worldwide pandemic over the past two years. Despite vaccinations and preventative screening methods, covid-19 remains a global issue in part due to high contagiousness and airborne transmission via droplet aerosolization. Current screening methods lack sensitivity or have a slow response time. In this study, we investigate an air-based photoacoustic spectroscopy method to rapidly detect viral RNA within aerosolized droplets.
