Le site des Poiriers, localisé au nord-ouest de Laval, en Mayenne, est marqué par la présence d’un enclos fossoyé subcirculaire, d’environ 1 045 m², associé à un petit enclos secondaire, ainsi qu’à plusieurs fosses et trous de poteau situés aussi bien à l’intérieur qu’à l’extérieur des espaces fossoyés. Ceux-ci ont donné lieu à cinq propositions de restitution de bâtiments. Parallèlement, deux phases de fonctionnement ont pu être mises en évidence, la première attribuée à la fin du xe s. et la seconde aux xie-xiie s. Si cet établissement présente des caractéristiques le rapprochant clairement d’habitats ruraux privilégiés (enceinte fossoyée, bâtiments importants…), il en diffère toutefois également sur certains points particuliers (précocité, superficie enclose, absence de certaines structures…), ce qui amène à rester prudent quant à son identification. Ainsi, l’hypothèse d’un site de traitement des récoltes ou autre production agricole peut aussi être envisagée, sans plus de certitudes, comme cela a déjà été proposé pour des sites comparables.
