Abstract
Dead Obies s’inscrit dans un discours mondialisant, tel que Monica Heller et Normand Labrie l’ont défini, c’est-à-dire une idéologie linguistique qui repose principalement sur le bilinguisme et la mixité culturelle comme biens économiques et traits d’une nouvelle francité. Le groupe se situe à la frontière entre des symboles et des textes issus du style musical qu’il explore, le hip-hop étatsunien, et d’une langue et de lieux hérités du peuple qui l’a vu grandir, le peuple québécois. La confluence de plusieurs cultures dans ses chansons lui permet de créer un imaginaire et un vocabulaire qui lui sont propres, garants de son authenticité culturelle.
