À l’occasion de son 35e anniversaire, les rédactrices de la Revue internationale PME nous ont demandé, en tant que fondateurs de cette dernière, de faire le point sur son parcours et son futur. Nous revenons, d’une part, sur son rôle dans le développement de la discipline touchant ce thème de recherche et, d’autre part, sur son évolution prévisible dans les prochaines années. Cet exercice nous permet d’insister à nouveau sur l’importance d’un tel thème non seulement à cause du nombre très imposant de ces entreprises dans toutes les économies, mais à cause de leur impact de plus en plus reconnu sur leur développement. Dans cet article, nous résumons les choix des thèmes retenus par les chercheurs dans les premières années de la revue. Par la suite, nous nous arrêtons aux thèmes qui ont été élargis dans la décennie suivante, marquant en particulier la spécificité et la complexité du sujet. Pour après faire quelques projections sur ce qui s’en vient possiblement dans ce monde des PME. Enfin, nous nous arrêtons à l’importance scientifique du français justement pour l’enrichissement de cette science comme pour toute autre science.
