Abstract
Cette étude porte conjointement sur l’intrigue et sur la narration d’Armance. Elle montre comment la paralipse autour de laquelle est construit le récit est compensée par une stratégie insistante de signification du handicap sexuel (et partant social) dont souffre le héros. On propose donc de considérer ce roman, si fin et si intense dans la description de l’expérience intime du malheur, comme un cas d’« écriture masculine », c’est-à-dire soucieuse de tenir sur la masculinité un discours authentique, alternatif aux scénarios héroïques controuvés. Elle montre par quels moyens narratifs Stendhal s’engage dans cette voie beaucoup plus profondément que Madame de Duras et Latouche.
