Abstract
Cet article s’intéresse à la polémique portant sur le « mensonge » dont a été accusé le gouvernement français à propos de l’utilité des masques sanitaires au début de la crise pandémique. L’étude s’appuie sur deux approches complémentaires. La première consiste en une analyse diachronique des interventions publiques des autorités exprimées au cours des mois de mars et avril 2020. La seconde approche consiste à relever et à analyser les réactions suscitées par la ligne discursive changeante du gouvernement. Cette double enquête, fondée sur une revue de presse et sur l’analyse d’un corpus de 1239 témoignages de citoyens ordinaires recueillis au cours du premier confinement, amène à considérer la notion d’agencement technico-discursif pour rendre compte d’une articulation changeante entre discours, ressources matérielles disponibles (masques) et connaissances scientifiques.
