Jamais une notion n'a suscit autant de regards critiques, en sciences humaines et sociales, que la notion d'idologie. Notion transversale, qui a suscit l'intrt de disciplines diverses, l'idologie est aussi une notion fourre-tout. Bien qu' partir des annes 1970 des chercheurs aient annonc la dsidologisation des socits contemporaines et proclam la fin des idologies (Bell, 1997(Bell, [1960]]), la plupart de ces socits demeurent aujourd'hui plus idologises que jamais. Ce numro thmatique de la revue Circula (Universit de Sherbrooke) n'a pas pour objectif de passer en revue les diffrentes conceptualisations de l'idologie. Cependant, il n'est pas inutile de rappeler, sans prtendre aucune exhaustivit, comment certaines disciplines ont conu cette notion afin de clarifier le dbat sur les rapports entre langues et idologies au Maghreb. Car, dans de nombreux textes, non seulement au Maghreb, mais aussi ailleurs, on fait souvent rfrence la notion d' idologie sans qu'elle ne soit explicite. Pour Marx et Engels (1952) [1845], l'idologie est une conception errone , une abstraction de l'histoire ; pour Althusser (2005 : 238-239), elle est ncessaire au fonctionnement d'une socit. Ce dernier fait le lien entre l'idologie, l'imaginaire, le symbolique et le mythique. Pour la sociologie critique de Habermas (1973 : 149), l'idologie est l'expression des distorsions sociales , conception que l'on retrouve aussi chez Weber pour qui l'idologie est un systme d'ides li sociologiquement un groupement conomique, politique, ethnique ou autre, exprimant sans rciprocit les intrts plus ou moins conscients de ce groupe, sous la forme d'anhistorisme, de rsistance au changement ou de dissociation des totalits. Elle constitue donc la cristallisation thorique d'une forme de fausse conscience.
