Abstract
À l’heure où triomphe Wikipédia, qui douterait que l’encyclopédie soit redevenue à la mode ? L’encyclopédiste, lui, n’a pas cette chance : raté impénitent mais passionné, il continue, depuis Bouvard et Pécuchet, à cumuler faux départs et queues de poisson. Fera-t-il fortune en vendant ses encyclopédies ? Deviendra-t-il écrivain à force d’en lire ? Pour apporter quelques éléments de réponse, les huit portraits rassemblés dans ces pages puiseront dans des textes francophones venus d’Afrique, de Martinique, mais aussi de la Suisse et du Québec. Ils espèrent ainsi convaincre le lecteur que l’encyclopédisme, sans être impossible, n’est pas français pour autant.
