Abstract
A partir de principes issus de l’approche contextuelle en archéologie, l’auteur propose une grille de lecture des pratiques mortuaires propres aux Mochica, une société préhistorique de l’Aire andine. Cette lecture contextuelle des données sépulcrales et iconographiques mochica met ainsi en relief l’existence d’une « stratégie du sacré », élaborée et contrôlée par les groupes dominants, lois de manifestations funèbres. L’hypothèse défendue ici est que le contexte mortuaire mochica a constitué un lieu efficace pour la transmission, la propagation et la perpétuation du message idéologique produit par l’élite politico-religieuse, dans les diverses régions qu’elle dominait.
