Abstract
Manfaat utama dari bawang merah yang sebenarnya adalah sebagai bumbu penyedap rasamakanan. Sentra produksi bawang merah di Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta berada di Kabupaten Bantultepatnya di Kecamatan Kretek. Petani yang tergabung dalam kelompok tani Ngudi Makmur diKecamatan Kretek melakukan proses sortasi untuk bawang merah yang sudah dipanen. Dalam prosessortasi bawang merah tersebut, menghasilkan limbah berupa kulit bawang merah yang selama inihanya dimanfaatkan sebagai pakan ternak atau dibuang begitu saja. Padahal kulit bawang merahtersebut masih mengandung zat gizi yang bermanfaat dan memiliki nilai ekonomi. Kondisi tersebutmenunjukkan masih minimnya pengetahuan petani tentang pengelolaan limbah kulit bawang merah.Berdasarkan analisis situasi tersebut, maka kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini bertujuan untukmeningkatkan pengetahuan dan ketrampilan masyarakat sasaran dalam memanfaatkan limbah kulitbawang merah menjadi pupuk kompos. Adapun metode pelaksanaannya meliputi koordinasi,penyuluhan tentang pemanfaatan limbah kulit bawang merah menjadi pupuk kompos, pelatihan dandemonstrasi tentang teknologi pembuatan pupuk kompos dengan fasilitasi mesin komposter sederhanayang mudah dikuasai dan dikembangkan baik skala rumah tangga maupun kecil di wilayah pedesaan.Masyarakat sasaran sangat antusias mengikuti beberapa tahap kegiatan tersebut. Melalui kegiatan inidiharapkan kesejahteraan masyarakat sasaran dapat meningkat.
