L’emploi de la notion d’« inclusion » constitue un changement de paradigme dans la société française depuis le début des années 2000 : elle suppose une adaptation de la société à tous les citoyens. Mais comment faire de la société inclusive une réalité pour les personnes ayant des incapacités? Nous avons choisi de nous questionner sur le potentiel inclusif des usages des technologies numériques par les personnes ayant une incapacité en contexte d’établissements médicosociaux en France. Notre approche épistémologique est anthropologique : en observant ce potentiel inclusif, nous analysons des phénomènes de société de portée plus générale, notamment la question des inégalités sociales. En immersion dans ces établissements, nous observons un processus complexe de construction d’inégalités sociales. Une situation d’isolement favorise l’émergence de représentations sociales négatives de la personne ayant des incapacités. Ces représentations sociales articulées avec une situation de dépendance entraînent un déficit d’estime de soi des acteurs concernés. Ces inégalités sociales sont des freins au processus d’appropriation des technologies numériques. Alors comment réduire les obstacles sociaux à l’e-inclusion ? Nous verrons dans quelle mesure nos méthodes d’accompagnement aux usages de la tablette tactile favorisent la prise de conscience des apprenants de leurs capacités, renforcent leur estime de soi et contribuent à transformer les représentations négatives qu’ils ont d’eux-mêmes. Nous verrons, enfin, en quoi le développement de leurs pratiques numériques favorise leur participation sociale et transforme l’organisation des établissements chargés de les accompagner.
