Abstract
Jose Escobar se licenció en Filosofía y Letras en la Universidad de Salamanca y, tras algún tiempo en Alemania, viajó a Canadá para trabajar como profesor catedrático en dos importantes universidades del país. Conoció a Salvador García Castañeda, autor de esta necrológica, en Italia, y viajó a muchos lugares para dar conferencias sobre su especialidad: el Romanticismo español. Fue un hispanista de renombre cuyas obras se siguen consultando para el análisis de la materia. Además, fundó y dirigió el Centro Internacional de Estudios sobre el Romanticismo Hispánico y la Sociedad de Literatura Española del siglo XIX.
