Abstract
Les polars de la Caraïbe francophone mettent en scène une violence qui est reliée à l’Histoire. Quand le crime est commis, il dévoile les soubassements d’une société assujettie à des antagonismes latents, et alimentés par une violence originelle. C’est pourquoi l’esclavage et ses conséquences figurent sur le banc des accusés. Aussi, le recours à une violence, se voulant réparatrice, est légitimé. À charge pour les personnages, des marrons contemporains, de mener l’enquête pour identifier les coupables. Il s’agit aussi de rendre justice, dans un cadre où c’est l’espace Caraïbe qui constitue une imposante scène de crime, un lieu où l’impunité a été érigée en système. Aucun endroit n’échappe à la violence : la ville, la mer, la campagne ou le morne. Tout se passe comme si la violence est omniprésente. D’ailleurs, toutes les strates de la société sont concernées. Par leurs délits, les acteurs de cette violence remettent en cause les clichés exotiques qui font de la Caraïbe un Éden.
