Les potagers domestiques québécois : du jardin archétypal au jardin pluriversel

Abstract
Cet article propose une analyse de la forme et des fonctions des potagers domestiques, des activités et interactions qui s’y déroulent ainsi que des significations qu’ils revêtent pour leurs protagonistes. Aménagés sur des terrains privés attenants à une résidence principale, ces potagers sont révélateurs d’une certaine manière d’être au monde et témoignent des transformations s’étant opérées dans le jardinage d’autoproduction au cours des dernières décennies. Une enquête ethnographique menée dans la région de Québec a révélé l’existence de deux modèles de potagers : l’archétype du XXe siècle et le jardin pluriversel. L’article explore les dimensions esthétique et productive de ces jardins, le rapport particulier à la nature et aux non-humains qui les caractérise ainsi que les principaux vecteurs de l’économie morale dont ils sont l’expression. S’ils constituent une source de nourriture fraiche, ces potagers sont aussi le symbole de critiques adressées au système alimentaire conventionnel et à la société de consommation.
