Abstract
En tant qu’éducateurs en milieux autochtones, il est possible de créer un contexte dans lequel les apprenants seront en mesure d’utiliser leur culture, leurs visions du monde et leurs vécus dans le processus d’apprentissage et, surtout, dans l’interprétation des textes qu’ils lisent. L’article propose une exploration des visions autochtones du monde et de la narration orale à partir d’une recension des écrits canadienne et internationale. Pour mieux comprendre la juxtaposition entre l’oralité et la lecture, l’article porte sur des aspects de la culture autochtone qui sont pertinents au contexte formel de l’apprentissage. Dans un premier temps, y sont décrits le rôle de la langue orale et le contexte d’apprentissage traditionnel autochtone, ainsi que le rôle de la narration dans la culture autochtone comme mode de pensée, d’expression et d’apprentissage partagé. Dans un deuxième temps, y sont décrites plusieurs approches orales qui facilitent la compréhension de la lecture et contribuent au développement holistique de la personne. L’article met l’accent sur les apprenants adultes.
