Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

The article reveals the features of biomorphic abstractionism in the art of Ukrainian diaspora artist Irena Nosyk (1928– 2016). The cycle of works «Origin of Life» created in 1962 is analyzed. The purpose of the work is to explore the main artistic means of expression of creativity for the construction of a work of art (compositional laws and principles). The art of the artist in the context of the history of abstract art of the twentieth century is covered. The basis for the analysis are philosophical concepts of semiotics in the interpretation of the recipient encoded meaning of the image. Non-figurative art is considered through the prism of the philosophy of Umberto Eco and Yuri Lotman to understand the artist's work. According to Kliment Greenberg’s theory, Irena Nosyk’s characterization of abstract art as an absolute expression of the needs of her time is highlighted. The peculiarities of the artist's color and tonal palette according to the theory of colors of Vasyl Kandinsky and Eugene Delacroix are clarified. An assessment of the reasons for the use of the main artistic techniques (language, color, plots) at the level of professional background of the artist. The interest in the use of zoomorphic and anthropomorphic forms in Irena Nosyk’s painting as a scientific illustrator at the Faculty of Biology of the University of Toronto was traced. The method of formal analysis of paintings provides information about the technique and material of execution, format and genre, proportions and scale of work. The principle of composition construction, the relationship between its parts is considered. The main principles of using contrasts and nuances in the composition, color scheme and the principle of color combination are highlighted. Attention is paid to each work of the cycle, they encode existential meanings that encourage the viewer to think about the philosophical issues of time, existence, existence and non-existence on our planet. The scientific novelty of the obtained results is the study of a previously unknown series of works by Ukrainian- Canadian artist Irena Nosyk «Origin of Life», which was based on philosophical and cultural meanings. The conclusions summarize the artis’s work as a manifestation of the symbiosis of artistic form-making and biological research in the philosophical search for the meaning of life on Earth.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
