Abstract
<em>Neodiprion abietis</em> is a pest of conifers native to North America, where it is found mainly in southern Canada and the northern United States. In October 2016, a pupa of <em>N. abietis</em> was intercepted in the Netherlands on cut branches of golteria (<em>Gaultheria </em>sp.) imported from the US. Since this pest is not found in the EPPO region, but causes damage to conifers in northern regions of North America, the Dutch NPPO suggested adding <em>N. abietis</em> to the EPPO alert list. This proposal was supported at EPPO panels on phytosanitary measures and quarantine forest pests.
