Abstract
El prerrafaelismo, movimiento artístico y estético iniciado por Dante Gabriele Rossetti, pintor inglés e integrante de la “hermandad prerrafaelita” fundada en 1848 y en la que se hermanaban estrechamente la pintura y la poesía, se halla muy presente en la obra de Darío Los Raros. El interés de Rubén Darío por la pintura viene dada por la estrecha relación que mantuvo toda su vida con diferentes pintores y toda clase de artistas en las diferentes ciudades en las que vivió: Santiago de Chile, Buenos Aires, Madrid y París. Sin embargo, será su relación con el crítico chileno de arte Pedro Balmaceda, la que lo llevaría, desde una edad temprana, a reflexionar sobre cuestiones estéticas. Rubén Darío, desde Azul…, se inspira continuamente en la pintura para escribir su obra, valora por encima de otros, a los pintores primitivos italianos, y comparte los gustos de los prerrafaelitas y simbolistas. Al leer la obra de Darío puede apreciarse cómo se establece la expresión conforme a una disposición plástica, esto es, el contenido poético parece disponerse con un criterio de cuadro, un retablo: paisaje, figura humana, vibración de colores, disposición de objetos, seres y perspectivas se hallan en relación directa con la pintura. En muchas ocasiones, los poemas de Darío vienen dados por la contemplación de cierta obra de arte que causa en el pintor una profunda impresión y de la que éste intenta hacer una transposición en poesía. Sin embargo, no siempre se inspira en una obra en concreto, sino que las imágenes, las obras que contempla en exposiciones y las ilustraciones que observa en las revistas quedan en su mente y al unirse con el tema del alma, crean imágenes representativas de la obra de Darío.
