Abstract
Con este artículo se estudia la figura de José Villegas Cordero y su relación con varias personas procedentes de Estados Unidos. Villegas fue maestro y amigo de John Elliott, a quien guio en su producción artística. Maud Howe, esposa de Elliott, reflejó el trabajo de Villegas como pintor y director del Museo del Prado en varios de sus textos literarios, entre ellos su libro de viajes Sun and Shadow in Spain (1908). Además, Villegas también se relacionó con Isabel y Larz Anderson, amigos igualmente de los Elliott, quienes adquirieron y promocionaron sus obras. El estudio de estas amistades, que se prolongaron durante casi cuatro décadas, proporciona una nueva visión de Villegas y su trabajo.
