Abstract
Статья посвящена Скилаку Кариандскому (последняя четверть VI – начало V в. до н.э.) — путешественнику, географу, историку, к сожалению, малоизвестному даже специалистам (во многом потому, что его наследие сохранилось очень плохо). Автор рассматривает свидетельства источников о Скилаке, приводит и комментирует сохранившиеся фрагменты его трудов. В статье делается вывод, что именно Скилак (а не Гекатей Милетский, как обычно считается) был древнейшим представителем древнегреческой дескриптивной географии, а также вторым античным географом после Анаксимандра. The article deals with Scylax of Caryanda (last quarter of the 6th – early 5th century B.C.) — traveler, geographer and historian, pitifully little known even to specialists (largely because his legacy has survived very poorly). The author analyzes source evidence on Scylax and cites and comments on the extant fragments of his work. The article concludes that it was exactly Scylax (and not Hecataeus of Miletus, as is usually thought) who was the earliest representative of Ancient Greek descriptive geography, as well as the second ancient geographer after Anaximander.
