J ournaliste spécialiste de l'Asie centrale, diplômée de l'École pratique des hautes études (EPHE) en anthropologie sociale, Sylvie Lasserre publie, en 2020, une réédition d'un ouvrage paru en 2010 aux éditions Cartouche, sous le titre Voyage au pays des Ouïghours (Turkestan chinois, début du XXI e siècle).Celui-ci était basé sur plusieurs entretiens réalisés avec de jeunes femmes et hommes ouïghours à Paris, Genève et Munich, entre 2006 et 2009, ainsi qu'une enquête journalistique clandestine effectuée en 2007, dans la Région autonome ouïghoure de la Nouvelle frontière (xinjiang weiwu'er zizhiqu), ci-après Région ouïghoure.La nouvelle édition conserve ce récit, en le prolongeant d'une seconde partie qui traite de l'évolution de la situation politique en Région ouïghoure de 2010 à 2020, à partir de sources de seconde main et de témoignages recueillis par l'autrice, en France et en Turquie, entre 2016 et 2020.
