Abstract
In the current human-centered Anthropocene era, today's societies worldwide are undergoing rapid change, both technologically and environmentally. New evolutionary adaptations only arise in response to a specific adaptive problem that presents itself, and those individuals best equipped to solve it have an adaptive advantage. Digital cosmopolitanism, as distinguished from cyberutopianism, requires us to take responsibility for making these connections real and gain an understanding of what is necessary to build real and lasting connections in digital space. The worldwide exchange of goods and people had also hidden downsides, such as potentially irreversible tipping points of environmental pollution and elevated risks of contagious viruses as recently witnessed by the rapid spread of Covid-19 worldwide. The awakening of the Global Mind is disrupting established patterns, creating exciting new opportunities for emergent centers of influence not controlled by elites and the potential for reforms in established dysfunctional behaviors.
