Abstract
En 1754, dans les Pensées sur l’interprétation de la nature , Diderot met en cause la théorie que Maupertuis développe, depuis 1751, sur la formation des corps organisés. Les vues scientifiques de Maupertuis ne sont pas en cause, mais plutôt la conception du système de la nature qui s’y rattache et que Diderot entend réinterpréter en se servant d’un schème néo-spinoziste. Dans le même temps, un schème néo-leibnizien semble dominer les concepts que Maupertuis élabore. La parenté des vues de Diderot et de Maupertuis ne se montre qu’à l’intérieur de certaines limites : celles-ci se dévoilent dans la réponse de Maupertuis à l’encontre des analogies spinozistes qui, selon Diderot, sous-tendraient implicitement sa philosophie naturelle.
