The authors developed a field-free time-of-flight technique to study the binary ridge in the velocity map of sub-eV H${}^{+}$ fragments knocked out from molecular H${}_{2}$ by O${}^{+}$-ion impact. The ridge is found to be split into two parts arising from the rotational motion of the molecule, indicating that rotations significantly influence fragmentation processes.
