El artículo examina el importante papel que desempeñan el tráfico y el consumo de drogas ilegales en Cualquier miércoles soy tuya (2002), la segunda novela publicada por la escritora puertorriqueña Mayra Santos Febres. En esta lectura, las drogas en la novela funcionan como un vehículo para reflexionar críticamente sobre la sociedad puertorriqueña contemporánea, y particularmente sobre los fracasos del desarrollismo propiciado a mediados del siglo XX por Luis Muñoz Marín y el Estado Libre Asociado, que intentó catapultar a Puerto Rico al proyecto moderno del capitalismo global. A pesar de que el discurso oficial sobre las drogas suele enfocarse en la tajante distinción entre lo legal y lo ilegal, la novela muestra cómo el mundo ilegal de las drogas es estructurado en gran medida por los mismos imperativos conómicos del mundo “legal” - la lógica excluyente de la globalización neoliberal, cuya operación en el Caribe está ligada a una larga historia de violencia y explotación colonial.
