Abstract
L'importation de chiens infectés par la rage entraîne des risques importants et coûteux pour la santé du public et des animaux.En janvier 2022, un chien de l'Ontario, Canada, qui a été importé d'Iran en juin 2021, a développé la rage, menant à une vaste enquête de santé publique et à l'administration de prophylaxie après l'exposition à la rage pour 37 personnes.Le chien a été infecté par un variant de la rage connu pour circuler en Iran.Il s'agit du deuxième cas signalé d'un chien infecté par la rage qui a été importé au Canada en 2021 d'un pays à haut risque pour la rage d'origine canine.Ce cas souligne la nécessité de sensibiliser le public aux risques associés à l'importation de chiens de pays à haut risque pour la rage d'origine canine et aux avantages de la création d'une équipe de santé publique spécialisée dans les enquêtes sur l'exposition à la rage.
