L’histoire coloniale ne peut faire l’économie de l’épisode des tirailleurs Sénégalais durant la première Guerre Mondiale. A ce propos, les silences et les ambiguïtés de cette guerre asymétrique, mais également, l’infortune des soldats africains engagés dans cette immense tragédie planétaire sont au centre de préoccupations mémorielles. A travers Frère d’âme de David Diop, la présente étude interroge les silences et la propagande de guerre orchestrée contre les tirailleurs africains, sur la base de préjugés raciaux. L’approche postcoloniale d’Achille Mbembé constitue l’outillage méthodologique de cette réflexion tripartite qui explore les sources d’une mémoire coloniale controversée, s’attarde sur la nécessité de panser les imaginaires coloniaux par une déconstruction de la « bibliothèque coloniale » et enfin, insiste sur la construction d’une mémoire afrocentrée de la Grande Guerre.
