Abstract
Nombre d’affirmations sur le niveau de stérilité sont fausses parce que basées sur des concepts confus et des mesures inadéquates. Cet article souligne l’importance de la distinction entre stérilité et infertilité. Il discute à cet effet des difficultés à concevoir et des délais d’attente, de l’incidence des traitements contre l’infertilité, des modèles démographiques de fécondabilité, de l’âge de la femme à la première naissance et de l’évolution récente de la stérilité et de l’infertilité en relation avec les maladies transmissibles sexuellement.
