la propria tesi adotta le teorie spaziali di studiosi quali Larivaille, Zatti e Gntert, rivisitandole e fornendo proprie, personali interpretazioni sulle funzioni degli spazi nel poema.Mileo tiene a dimostrare che l'opera presenta quella ch'egli chiama una "struttura comunicativa", ossia "un contesto di simboli determinanti per lo svolgimento dell'azione narrata" (9).L'obiettivo di Mileo di "mostrare la valenza semantica degli spazi descritti nel poema, l'interazione ambiente-personaggi e l'influenza che la struttura dello spazio ha sullo sviluppo della trama" (9).In altre parole, il critico letterario vuole sottolineare l'importanza che gli spazi ricoprono nell'opera e le varie funzioni che svolgono a livello di trama e personaggi, ovvero come influenzano i movimenti, le azioni e le interazioni dei personaggi.
