Abstract
L’essai reconstruit le milieu culturel italien de la deuxième moitié du dix-huitième siècle et en souligne les caractéristiques par rapport aux contextes européens. Si de nombreuses œuvres allemandes ou anglaises se servent souvent du français avant d’être traduites en italien, d’autres passent directement à l’italien. C’est le cas des Poesie di Ossian traduites par Melchiorre Cesarotti, œuvre qui est aussi une expérience linguistique et culturelle, puisqu’elle se propose comme fenêtre ouverte sur un monde complètement nouveau, dont la mélancolie et la nuit représentent des fondements thématiques cardinaux. L’expérimentalisme linguistique de Cesarotti trouve dans sa traduction un point de rupture avec la tradition classique, qui ouvrira la voie à la grande poésie romantique.
