La médecine officielle, telle que nous la connaissons maintenant, date d'environ cent cinquante ans. Parallèlement, la véritable médecine traditionnelle est celle dont les origines se perdent dans la nuit des temps. Nous avons assisté depuis plus d'un siècle à des jeux de pouvoirs très importants de la part des médecins formes en faculté universitaire dans une orientation allopathique afin que des lois restrictives sanctionnent leur contrôle et leur quasi-monopole dans la dispensation des soins de santé. Il est donc normal d'être surpris face à d'autres types de médecine qui s'avèrent elles aussi efficaces dans Ie traitement de la maladie et dans le maintien de la santé. Cela demande d'abord une clarification de certains mots clés : médecine douce, médecine traditionnelle, médecine holistique, médecine officielle. Sept grandes idées animent l'approche holistique et cinq grands courants thérapeutiques s'y rattachent : l'énergétique chinoise, l'homéopathie, l'ostéopathie, les stratégies énergétiques et les stratégies psychologiques. Au delà d'informations descriptives, des indications sont proposées pour s'y retrouver quant à leur valeur scientifique et leur valeur de vérité. Enfin, l'application des médecines douces est envisagée dans les centres hospitaliers, en considérant les besoins de la population, l'organisation législative et réglementaire et la compétence des professionnels impliqués.
