Em 2022, a notícia da morte do cineasta Jean-Luc Godard consternou cidadãos de todo o mundo e reacendeu o debate sobre a prática do suicídio assistido, posto que, foi por meio deste procedimento, realizado na Suíça - país em que a prática é permitida, que o aclamado diretor decidiu finalizar a sua vida. Em 2015, a morte assistida foi legalizada na Colômbia, primeiro país sul-americano a autorizar o procedimento. O ato fúnebre também é permitido em outros países ocidentais: a África do Sul, Áustria, Alemanha, Suíça, Bélgica, Holanda, Luxemburgo, Espanha, Estados Unidos – sendo a prática legalizada em cinco estados - e Canadá. O presente artigo pretende realizar um estudo comparativo sobre a regulamentação do suicídio assistido em diferentes legislações nacionais, destarte, inquirindo-se sob a luz do direito à vida como principal fundamento legislativo do Direito para a morte assistida, discutindo assim os juízos acerca do tema. Afinal, uma análise comparada do tema é imperiosa para o desenvolvimento de um embasamento teórico aprofundado em relação ao objeto de estudo em questão.
