Abstract
O presente trabalho aborda a figura da personagem Circe na obra Odisseia de Homero, cuja datação (aproximadamente século VIII a.C.), bem como a autoria, nos remetem a uma “questão homérica”, aqui debatida., levando em conta conceitos como gênero, magia e mitologia. A partir da categoria métis, inteligência astuciosa, discute-se o papel da personagem na narrativa homérica e sua relevância para o contexto da Grécia Antiga, especialmente quando diz respeito as questões de gênero que se consolidavam. Dessa forma, a imagem negativa, posteriormente atribuída a Circe, passa a ser problematizada dentro do contexto helênico, revelando que seu phármakon, mais tarde associado a magia, não possuía por si só caráter negativo, utilizado inclusive por outros personagens, sendo o seu papel enquanto mulher portadora de métis que lhe atribui sentido pejorativo, afinal, permitia-lhe inverter a ordem da hierarquia social estabelecida.
