L’article se propose de suivre les aventures – et méandres – de la conception et de la réception de l’ouvrage, « Architecture polychrome chez les Grecs » (1851) par Hittorff, personnage-clé de l’architecture et de l’archéologie en France dans la première moitié du XIXe siècle. L'accent est mis sur l'analyse de son réseau au sein de l'Académie des beaux-arts de Paris pendant un demi-siècle d'appartenance. C’était un homme de réseau avant la lettre qui, polyglotte, sut mettre en contact les milieux académiques occidentaux.
