Wstęp: Głównym celem badania była odpowiedź na pytanie, czy osoby chorujące na niedoczynność tarczycy i poddane leczeniu mają większe problemy z efektywnością procesów uwagi i procesów pamięciowych niż osoby zdrowe.W ramach celów szczegółowych badania przeanalizowano, czy dodatkowe zmienne, takie jak zgłaszane objawy towarzyszące chorobie, masa ciała, przyjmowane leki i palenie, różnicują osoby chore i zdrowe.Materiał i metody: W badaniu wzięły udział kobiety ze zdiagnozowaną niedoczynnością tarczycy, w tym pacjentki z przewlekłym autoimmunologicznym zapaleniem tarczycy Hashimoto (n = 40), w wieku 22-50 lat.Grupę kontrolną stanowiły zdrowe kobiety w wieku 22-46 lat (n = 40).W badaniu wykorzystano baterię testów CANTAB Cognitive Tests.Wyniki: Nie wykazano istotnych statystycznie różnic pomiędzy chorymi z niedoczynnością tarczycy leczonymi lewotyroksyną a zdrowymi kobietami.Pacjentki bez objawów towarzyszących zaburzeniom funkcji tarczycy uzyskały wyższe wyniki w teście na szybkie przetwarzanie informacji wizualnych niż chore, u których występowały objawy, oraz zdrowe kobiety z podobnymi symptomami.Wnioski: Kobiety z niedoczynnością tarczycy leczone lewotyroksyną i kobiety zdrowe nie różnią się między sobą w zakresie sprawności podtrzymania uwagi, efektywności pamięci roboczej wizualnej, pamięci roboczej przestrzennej oraz czasu reakcji motorycznych i umysłowych.Subiektywna ocena pamięci wśród chorych jest zdecydowanie gorsza niż wśród zdrowych kobiet.Pogorszenie funkcji podtrzymania uwagi zaobserwowano u kobiet zgłaszających dwa objawy i więcej zarówno w grupie chorych, jak i zdrowych uczestniczek badania.Wśród osób chorych częściej występuje nadwaga i otyłość niż u zdrowych kobiet.W grupie pierwszej jest też więcej osób palących niż wśród zdrowych kobiet i więcej, niż wynosi średnia kobiet palących w Polsce.
