Abstract
Advanced therapy development is overseen by regulatory authorities that ensure the product is of good quality, has the appropriate efficacy and is safe for patients. Advanced therapies are more innovative and complex than most other biological products and require specific attention to various aspects of the development program and during approval. The EU and US have developed specific instruments to aid developers of advanced therapies to ensure they meet the regulatory requirements. This chapter discusses how cell and gene therapies are regulated, what regulatory tools the agencies provide and the marketing approval process.
