Abstract
La chanson francophone du Bas-Canada, telle qu’on peut l’appréhender dans son contenu et dans sa circulation à partir des recueils publiés jusqu’à la révolte des Patriotes, se signale par une présence importante de chansons révolutionnaires, républicaines et bonapartistes françaises. Cette présence trouve sa racine dans des contacts clandestins entre Patriotes canadiens et révolutionnaires, puis républicains, français. Le journaliste canadien patriote Ludger Duvernay et le poète français Pierre-Jean de Béranger sont au cœur de ces échanges. Ils marquèrent profondément la culture musicale du Bas-Canada, mais aussi la culture politique patriote qui y puisa des ressources symboliques pour penser son émancipation.
