Abstract
L’écriture de l’opéra rock Starmania s’envisage dans un aller et retour linguistique entre la France et le Québec. Quand Michel Berger fait appel à Luc Plamondon pour contribuer à l’écriture de son opéra rock, c’est précisément pour créer un style bigarré - ni trop québécois ni totalement français - qui résonne dans l’air du temps et parle à un public francophone international, tout en frappant l’imagination par l’expressivité d’un style nouveau. En outre, il faut concevoir l’album-concept de 1978 comme un matériau qui, au fil des créations, évolue selon la période et le lieu de représentation. La plume de Plamondon s’adapte aux sphères sociales des publics. Le choix des interprètes – dans des troupes systématiquement mi québécoises mi françaises – offre également à Plamondon l’occasion de varier son travail textuel à qui les signes diaphasiques et le style interprétatif donnent une résonnance particulière. Cette spécificité de l’écriture nous invite à penser que Plamondon travaille une langue nouvelle et universelle, telle que la concevrait la ville nouvelle de Monopolis.
