Abstract
Ce témoignage du réalisateur George Tombs présente les motivations derrière son documentaire sur Roald Amundsen, l’approche adoptée, et la vision de l’explorateur qui y est développée. Le long métrage documentaire The Blinding Sea (Éblouis par la mer) est un nouveau film sur l’explorateur norvégien Roald Amundsen, qui a mené la première expédition à travers le passage du Nord-Ouest et la première expédition au pôle Sud. Ce film, tourné en extérieur en Antarctique et dans l’Arctique, révèle les relations étroites qu’entretenait Amundsen avec les Inuits canadiens. Alors que d’autres explorateurs européens s’appuyaient sur des connaissances explicites mal adaptées à l’environnement polaire, Amundsen a passé deux ans au Nunavut, où il a découvert un nouveau paradigme fondé sur les connaissances tacites inuites, qu’il a combiné avec ses expériences en Norvège, développant ainsi une approche novatrice de l’exploration polaire.
