Abstract
Depuis le Rapport Parent, le système scolaire québécois permet les choix scolaires entre deux réseaux d’enseignement, l’un public et l’autre privé. Cependant, pour plusieurs parents d’enfants à besoins particuliers, les processus de choix d’une école secondaire s’accompagnent de différentes contraintes (scolaires, familiales). Cette étude examine des processus parentaux de choix scolaires en mariant une approche d’inspiration interactionniste sur les choix scolaires (van Zanten, 2009) et l’approche des parcours de vie. Embrassant une posture compréhensive et interprétative, l’analyse inductive d’entretiens semi-dirigés révèle que différents mécanismes inhérents au processus de choix de l’école secondaire (p. ex., perceptions subjectives et contraintes liées au territoire) peuvent produire des inégalités et réduire le potentiel de ces enfants à leurs difficultés.
