Abstract
Abstract Indigenous movements – including their frameworks, tools, and goals – remain underexamined in the literature, despite persuasive critiques of the applicability of mainstream theories in Indigenous contexts. Instead of more familiar mobilizations and analyses thereof, Indigenous movements are intergenerational, expressly counter‐hegemonic projects, flowing equally from Indigenous ontologies and lived experiences of Settler colonialism, that aim not for inclusion or recognition but decolonization and self‐determination. Although they can be “scaled up” and are often highly networked, these movements remain rooted in frameworks that are specific to particular Indigenous groups (nations, communities, and clans).
