Abstract
La formule du « Charme de la voix » qui fait le titre d’une pièce de Thomas Corneille de 1657 constitue la matrice topique d’un vaste corpus d’œuvres qui ont interrogé, tout au long de l’âge classique, les pouvoirs de la voix. L’article dégage deux séries de topoï : dans le conte de « La Belle et la bête » et ses réécritures entre les années 1740 et les années 1770, le « charme de la voix » est essentiellement envisagé sous l’angle de la douceur et du processus civilisationnel, tandis que dans la nouvelle de Cazotte, Le Diable amoureux (1772-1776), il apparaît comme une puissance déstabilisatrice en relation avec l’imaginaire de la sorcière.
